About the event

Join us as we unveil a state historical marker on the north grounds of the depot (in the grassy area once known as “Le Grande Square”). This marker, titled “Michigan Central Railroad Depots,” celebrates Jackson’s role as a rail hub and as a transportation corridor in the Underground Railroad.

Directly following this outdoor ceremony, we will move inside the depot to unveil five wall-mounted markers that celebrate different historic milestones involving the depot property, from its grand opening in 1873 to presidential visits. These markers represent a collaboration between the Jackson County Michigan Historical Society and the L.H. Field Family Foundation, which provided grant funding for the five markers.

Please save the date for this important ceremony!
